Does fuel pump receive signal from ignition relays? Empty Does fuel pump receive signal from ignition relays?

Hello everyone. Had ignition relays swapped (not to new) after trouble starting. Was ok for a week now playing up again. Sounds 'dry' when trying to start and no engine light. All earths/battery terminals cleaned, new plugs. Any ideas? Thanks :-)

Ensure when you turn key to position two that you hear the fuel pump. If it is not priming the fuel circuit then the problem lies there. If that is ok then there maybe be an air leek in the fuel lines? other than that then you are into everything else (maf, map, injectors etc). A diagnostic tool should throw a fault up for an electrical issue to give a clue.

If your engine light is not on then it 99% likely to be the grey connector plug that you
will find the other side of the hole that goes through the battery box with the main battery lead. Two wires come out of the connector and one of them breaks causing the problem you describe.

Crawl underneath and give the connector a good waggle about while someone watches the dash light to see if it comes on.

Ignition switch must be turned on
to observe what is happening.

Totally missed the engine light bit. Could be a bad connection in the main fuse holder as well (needs a clean), had that with mine.

Grey connector been waggled, can hear fuel pump. If the van is rocked the engine light comes on and it starts. Thinking its something electrical connected to movement of engine? Are there any multiplugs or the like that might have broken down? Got it booked in to go on a ramp to have the loom checked out.

There is another large flat grey connector at the other end of the battery connector wire. It is right by the starter motor.
It has two thick white wires going into the plug and obviously out again. It would be unusual for it to be that although terminals could have corroded and need cleaning. One of the white wires goes to the yellow main 60amp fuseholder under the driversvseaat by the gear lever. But if that was a bad connection you would have no power at all to any of the circuits. Another slim possibility could be the ignition switch but once again unlikely.

I still think the problem is one of the two wires being broken inside the plastic sheathing on the grey plug either going into the plug or coming out of the plug. You say that rocking the van can get the light to come on. Once again you are back to the battery plug wires.

If your yellow engine management light isnt coming on or is intermittent then its 99% sure to be the grey plug wires.

The fuel pump relay is up under the dash below and behind the brake fluid reservoir for your information though.

Thanks for the reply. You mentioned the wire going to the main fuseholder? It has occurred that there are no lights, no sound on turn of key etc. This is happening more often then a bit of a 'nudge' (sometimes not always) and then lights and start. Is it easy to get to. Thanks :-)
