I have the vaguest gearshift ever seen! Not had much time today but had a quick look at the gearbox end of the gearshift cable and it looks like the centre of the "eye" has collapsed and disintegrated. I'm guessing that there is no off the shelf solution? other than fitting a new cable. If not i'll have to find time to knock some nylon bushes up on the lathe.

Yeah this is pretty typical of a well used example.

Get your lathe out!

Someone on here used oilite bushes and said it made a world of difference. I think the majority of the bushes if not all off them were off the shelf items, i think there was one bush he couldn't find a replacement for but you could modify and off the shelf item or like you say, make one.

Completely transformed my little truck yesterday by taking out the gearshift cables and also the gearstick mechanism itself and removing, remaking and replacing the bushes. The bushes in the end of the cables had worn through to the rubber and the nylon bushes in the mechanism were nearly worn through. Put bronze bushes in the cables and replaced the nylon with nylon and now its a joy to drive. Very direct positive action on the gear changing now. I'd highly recommend doing this for anyone else in this predicament.

Only took one photo but this is the new bush in place. The old one had worn into an oval and had worn to the rubber in two places so quite a transformation
