Door handle frustration Empty Door handle frustration

Post by andy pyke Sun Nov 30, 2014 8:12 pm

I got one of the ebay sliding door handles which I managed to fit. Frustratingly, it didn't work out as I had hoped. After fitting the exterior handle, it just didn't pull the cable that runs inside the door to operate the latch.

Looking more closely at the interior mechanism, it seemed there were two "levers" that were operated by the handle. Only one of them was being operated. It looked like they should kind of work together if the spring would go through the hole for both of them. I tried to do that...and failed. The spring seems to have lost the little post that goes up through the levers and makes them work.

Is it possible to get a little post to fix this (about 2mm tall!) or do I need a whole new interior mechanism?

To re-cap, fitted a new sliding door exterior handle. The mechanism didnt pull the cable so I looked on the inside and saw two "levers". One was being pulled by the outside mechanism. There was a spring between it and the other lever (which pulls the door opening cable). It seemed like the pin on the spring should go through the holes in both levers. Whilst trying to do this, I lost the pin.

1. Was I right about the pin going through both levers?
2. Can I get a new pin?
3. Have I ballsed it up completely?

Thanks!
