I'm planning on flipping my rear axle this weekend, but can anyone tell me what this spring and its appendages are?
Thanks!

Boing! Time for bed, said Zebedee. Brake load compensator, methinks.

Ah, so it is sort of important to get in back in the correct position.

I wouldn't worry about it - unless you might need a MOT in the future.... Very Happy

or just swap it for a t piece? Bound to be someone who someone who disagrees with that idea on the grounds of the rear brakes being over keen but they're only drums after all! You could just put a brake bias controller in if you weren't regularly changing the weight of your van with heavy loads.

On the axle flip plan, please please please take some photos so I can see how it goes! I'm guessing some notching will be needed?

Changing the LSPV for a T piece is an MOT failure Sad

If it wasn't, I would do it every time!

I do find it a bit worrying that someone who is going to seriously hack up their hijets rear suspension, doesn't understand a common brake system component.

But we all have to learn somewhere.

Don't worry, the new lspv mount will be lower on the axle. As much lower as axle goes up towards the bed

that's a good reason not to put a t piece in then! Is it just because it has leaf springs?

Measured and measured, and decided not to go for axle flip. I am changing the spring package instead. Flipping the top spring, and removing the middle one. I will have less load capacity, but all i ever haul is bike stuff. Pictures will come later

Any vehicle that was factory fitted with an lspv must have one on the MOT test.

The tester will know it should have one due to the pair of pipes that go along the floor of the van, and the single line to the rear axle.

But if you re-plumbed the whole system you could make it appear to have never had one.

The workshop for today:

The original and reworked springs
spring thingy on the rear axle 20141018_125031

Hooray for a couple of seized bolts. Took about 3 hours for the complete job.

And the new stance. I kind of like it.

:-)

But the front bumper has come up a few cm since the back was lowered. I'm thinking about adding a lip of some sort
spring thingy on the rear axle 20141018_170719

The front is now 8,5cm lower and the back about 9,5cm lower.

I made a new mount for the lspv, 9,5cm lower than the original. Not made a photo of this yet.
