If it's like my 2003 it doesn't have a distributor, leave alone a cap. Check on the rocker cover and you should see four coil packs, each one directly above its sparkplug.

No they don't have a dizzy, they have a camshaft sensor instead. And yeah sometimes the coilpacks go faulty and sometimes the tube that goes from the coilpack to the sparkplug goes faulty too.

Are they expensive to change ?

Well you only change one when you prove it doesn't work, by using a process of elimination.

I think it's the fuel pump , if I don't hear it kicking in then the engine won't start even on LPG . Does the fuel pump effect LPG in starting the engine even if it's not on the petrol mode?

Two small wires that go to the batter live terminal are broken some where.

Thanks ,the engine still turns over if that makes any difference also the petrol fuel gauge works intermittently .

Yes before i start the van  but not when the engine is turning over ,it goes off

yes it runs intermittently

It should run for about 3 seconds when you turn the key on.

If you put your ear to the end of a long screw driver and touch the end against an injector, can you hear it ticking?

Earlier four cylinder model between 1998 and 2001/2 had only TWO coil packs. They are pretty easy to remove the coil packs. The two coil pack models had two 10mm nuts holding them on whereas the four coilpack ones have only one 10mm nut holding them on.

And yes they do pack up occassionly. I have sold three of them in the last month. You wouldnt want to buy new ones. If you need ANY spares for Hi-Jets try HJ or me before asking anywhere else.

thanks everyone for your help I did think it was the fuel pump at one point because it would come on intermittently when I turned the ignition key, I also noticed that when I charged the battery up after running the battery down trying to start the engine the fuel pump would kick in and start the engine.So I decided to upgrade the battery to a more powerful one and now so far it starts first time
