Vented or solid discs Empty Vented or solid discs

Post by xxemaphorr Wed Apr 02, 2014 10:27 am

Does anyone know if they really did fit vented front brake discs to the 1.3 hijet? Mine was made in 05/98 and so is right on the changeover to the new type vehicle and has solid discs. Everywhere I check for parts though they all ask this question. If this is true are the calipers any different? I would expect there to be some difference in thickness or diameter. Has anyone driven both and noticed a difference in stopping power?

Likewise.!! Every Hi-Jet I have had or scrapped have been solid discs.

And yes if there were Vented Discs the calipers would be wider to accommodate the extra thickness of the vented disc. But its a nice thought though.

Why on earth would anybody need vented discs on a hijet, keeping them going forwards or backwards under their own power is the biggest problem the last thing you want to do is stop them  Laughing

I'm with d1noh - what would be the point (apart from adding cost)?

Always gets me when people say: Got vented drilled Discs, the best brake pads money can buy, my reply is when did you last change your brake fluid and you get the reply Why?
Wonder how many people change brake fluid regularly?

If the vented are the same thickness as solid then they must have a much lower thermal mass to play with.
Anyway I rarely cook the brakes on mine and it get some serious b lane hammering round tight corners and lots of down hill thrashing.

Well it seems solid are the only option! I'm happy with that though; always been fairly happy with the hijet brakes I just thought I'd investigate a little! Thanks for your input everyone
