993, never warms up?

I bought a 993cc hijet. It's had a manual fan switch installed so obviously has history. On the 3 hour drive back the temperature barely lifted off the cold end, and the air coming out of the heater was barely lukewarm.

I felt all the rubber hoses I could find (after killing the engine) and they didn't feel exactly firm (edit: or warm at all). Don't know if that's normal?

I'm going to have a quick look at the water level in the morning, but in the mean time does anyone know what might be going on?

Thermostat most likely missing.

Yep, no thermostat.

So the water level seemed fine: I popped the cap under the passenger seat and water came spewing out (pure water, unfortunately). Topped it up again from the front and didn't see anything untoward. The overflow tank is above maximum.

I plan to flush the water and replace it with coolant when I get time.

What's the best place to order a thermostat?
