Draughty 1.3?
Ever since I got this van I have has a draught on my knees while doing 40mph +, can feel it down the drivers door too.
When I have the heaters on feet the cold draught is what I now feel, but I know the heater is working
Any ideas?

Re: Draughty 1.3?
Yep! Or the door seal at the bottom isn't working.
Head light cover is the regular suspect as it will have not been clipped in at the top before getting screwed in at the bottom. Or the top clip is totally broken off.
I actually have a bottle wedged in at the top as the top clip was broken off, and driving down the motorway last year in the winter my right foot was getting VERY cold.

Re: Draughty 1.3?
I know this van has had issues with the headlights and the front bumper isn't on straight.
How does one unclip the headlights surround?
I don't wear skirts thankfully!

Re: Draughty 1.3?
You have to remove the indicator, then there are 2 screws you can see, then you have to slide the surround outwards to release the first couple, then upwards to release the ones closest the grill.
Bumpers do not have any adjustment, but if its bumped something then the mounting points will be bent.

Re: Draughty 1.3?
ta, will give it a bash tomorrow.
from MOT history this thing has had issues with headlight aim etc.. & i with the ghosty moving headlights which was a fecked switch.
so i hope everythings still in the right place & not broken.....
now that you mention indicators...
the front ones corners stick out a bit & for MOT someone stuck tape over the edges..... hmmmmm

Re: Draughty 1.3?
Go to another bloody garage! The reason the bit sticks out is cos Hijets need side repeaters, this counts as them, your tester made the van a failure by taping them up.....

Re: Draughty 1.3?
So you haven't put it through a MOT yet? Is there a friendly, independant garage with MOT facilities near you that might be more concerned with repeat custom than a quick buck? www.honestjohn.co.uk (from the telegraph motoring supplement) has 3 recommended garages in Marlborough. Might be worth a try - and you might find them even friendlier (but hopefully not too much) if you do wear a skirt for a change.

Re: Draughty 1.3?
dunno about friendly MOT place yet as tbh not had a van long enough to find one.. now bike wise.. yup got a very friendly one who loves Tescos doughnuts
Might have one in mind who did the Megans MOT. i know the chap.
MOT isnt due till April 2014, but i do need to look at the passenger sliding door top rail as i know a door that doesnt open will fail MOT. If the windscreen crack doesnt get worse... + knowing there is a reoccurring issue with headlights on prev MOTs.. will it be an issue again..
Meanwhile... i did have a better look, yes the headlight surround isnt sitting flush like the LHS is.. a slight jiggle (as all i had time for today) has seen a slight improvement in the cold knees dept... or it could be its slightly warmer today in general! if i cant fix it, i will be looking at using some kind of seal.. maybe one of those cheap stick on draft round rubber seal jobs for the house doors/windows.

Re: Draughty 1.3?
Sliding doors on a van are not checked on the MOT only passenger access one so just the front on a van and if you take the seats out of and MPV for the test it is just a van with windows.
Re: Draughty 1.3?
What about the rear seat belts? In or out?rich the mechanic wrote:Sliding doors on a van are not checked on the MOT only passenger access one so just the front on a van and if you take the seats out of and MPV for the test it is just a van with windows.
Re: Draughty 1.3?
Have you checked the inside headlamp covers? Not sure what they're like on the 1.3 (meant to look but forgot and it's chilly outside now) but on the 993 they get butchered when changing headlamp bulbs.

Re: Draughty 1.3?
the plastic silly cover with 2 screws?
yep i know the one as i had to bodge mine back on the 993 i had as screws has rusted in!
this saturday i will be looking at all this.
As to MOT & doors.
I have read to MOT a MPV as a van; remove seats & belts.
The door does open... most the way...... that last 7" it will fall out of the top run out of that dedicated notch thats cut in the run so you can remove the door...

Re: Draughty 1.3?
Is the catch (long u-shape piece) that is supposed to grip the lower roller (to hold the door open) in place? If it's missing, the door could open too fat - maybe compare with other side?

Re: Draughty 1.3?
Most testers won't even open the doors if there are no seats if you can see through the glass you could always drop out the seat belt stalks then the belts cannot be tested at all.leopard_pagan wrote:As to MOT & doors.

Re: Draughty 1.3?
already done the stalks as they tend to get in the way of loading stuff...
i do leave the middle belts in as they come in handy to wrap around tall loads + permanent ratchet straps clipped to the "eyes" where the rear seat clips in..
i was even contemplating on unbolting the top bolt of the middle seat belt & tucking it behind the rear door card for MOT.
PFM you got a pic of said U bend bit? as i think i am looking in the wrong area from the one your thinking of...
