That's not too bad - at least you didn't have a major list of fail points! You should be well sorted for under £100.singledad wrote:failed on exhuarst, so the search is on

Non of the motor factor chains I've tried can come anywhere close to the ebay prices.
Most were quoting about £250 for the cat back system!!!!!
Post back if you find anything good (or bad!)

Yeah, then the next thing is if the guys that quoted you that price - if they order it in - is it even the right component
Some of the ebay sellers are on the ball with hijet exhausts.

The joy of owning an older vehicle . Was not aware the exhausts were so expensive , will be treating mine with some rust prohibitor now that I know , cant remember the name of it but it burns off the rust and leaves a high temperature resistant coating on the surface , brill stuff .
Cheers all
Eddie .

Share the name of it when you remember what it is called.eddie0303 wrote:The joy of owning an older vehicle . Re: mot tuesday!
Found it , its called Aquasteel , and its available off Ebay , its quite expensive but well worth the money . As I said you clean off excess rust then apply the Aquasteel . leave it to dry or till it has turned black . really bad areas of rust may need two coats . once dried it leaves a plastic coating on the area you have treated and it lasts for ages before rust again strikes .
Best of luck

Nice idea but exhausts rot from the inside out due to the water content of the exhaust gases.eddie0303 wrote:Found it , its called Aquasteel , and its available off Ebay , its quite expensive but well worth the money . Re: mot tuesday!
As a rule of thumb you burn roughly a gallon of water for every gallon of petrol I seem to
remember being told due to the moisture content in the burnt air.
Also using your vehicle every day will help an exhaust system last a lot longer because of
burning off the condensation that forms in the silencer as it cools down.

Re: mot tuesday!
I agree with what you say but it does sometimes happen that the exhaust suffers from external rot, especially when you live in a salty environment as I do on the coast , also u bolts , hangers etc can be protected by the prevention rather than cure option . The stuff I mentioned is also great for protecting fuel tanks and brake pipes etc , and has saved me a lot of money over the years .

It just the reaction, of burning any hydrocarbon fuel innit!
Hydrocarbon + oxygen = CO2 + Water
Plus all the other little nasty by products like sulphur, and other crap from the additives - all make a highly corrosive super fluid that spanks its way though the steel exhaust system, starting with the bottoms of the silencers more often then not, or on the welds of the pipes to flanges or hanging brackets.
Wanna beat it? Go stainless.
