how hard is the overheating issue to resolve?
on my search for a hijet I have found a cheap van which has a long MOT and some tax etc but is listed as occasionally overheating and has had the thermostat removed . would you suggest I avoid the van at all costs or take the risk and try troubleshoot the issue? it has done 100k
I thought I read a guide on here about resolving the overheating issue? I think it was posted by HighlyJetted but I can't seem to find it now?
thanks

ahh I found the guide:
http://www.daihatsuhijet.co.uk/hijet-overheating-problems-head-gasket-or-not/
Would any of the fourm experts be willing to carry this work out for me (for the going rate obviously)? I'd prefer someone who really knows the engine inside out rather than my local garages who would probably start changing random parts incurring unnecessary costs.

Best to read Daisys post, gives a reasonable idea of costs, and she did a lot herself. TBH if you cant do the work yoirself unless the vans really cheap/ good otherwise id be inclined to give it a miss.
Its a different proposition as most end up with a lemon after buying it
Though keeping an eye on Ebay & Scumtree, good vans seem few & far between. Theres a lot of shite out there.

thanks logi, I'm getting 1 word responses from the seller so I think this is a sign that they can't really be arsed trying to sell it! so god knows what state the van is in... going to steer clear of this one!

Re: how hard is the overheating issue to resolve?
he has sent me a bit more info
"It has been ok with me. People from the lakes came to get it in the weekend and it got as far as heddon...i drove it back with no dramas.
Thats why I dropped the price.
Bring another vehicle to tow with.
Could be water pump £100...could be radiator cap £10.
All else is sound.
Has to go."

what do you reckon?
If you can't do the work(or some of it) yourself does it look like an £800 van otherwise? To quote HJ,
If you like headaches, spending money and don't mind this sort of work then you make your own mind up obviously......
It's not dear, but it's a van with some chipboard and worktop in the back

it seems like too much work for me unfortunately.
When I originally saved the listing it was £600 and didn't mention the overheating issue and the 12month MOT made it look appealing.
The search continues.
I think one of you guys should just sell me one of your collection

Have faith, a good one will turn up if you keep hunting.
Best to find a nice original one, with not many owners and low milage.
Amen to the chipboard comment Logan, I don't get why some hijets go for silly money just because they have a bit of DIY bodgery in the back.
