Re: my hijet project.
Sitting in a hotel now. Working almost a month solid every bloody day. So far been in Northern ireland, Scotland, London, Newcastle, Sunderland and Now in Hastings. Up to York on Friday, Maidstone Monday, God knows after that. I think i've got 3 days penciled off week after next.
I did however stop at a paint suppliers on the way down to Hastings today to eye up some paint.

Ah, i'm just traveling around stripping lead from church roof's...not really, i'm doing some kind of Volvo sailing competition thing I think, haven't looked properly yet. I lived in Maidstone myself for 4 years from about 2001 to 2005.

I work in events, could be anything. I'm currently working on the olympic torch relay at weekends and other stuff during the week. Keeps me on my toes.

Re: my hijet project.
Hi Ash
Great to see your Hijet being modified,
Could i ask how you shortened the front dampers and lowered your leaf springs??
Also i want to put the older style front on mine (To look more like Bruces Rascal on RR) do you know if its straightforward??
Keep up the good work
Cheers
Adrian
P.s It looks great on those Rx7 Elford Turbo wheels

Re: my hijet project.
Cheers, they're not quite those wheels, similar. These are ATS, not sure who the Elford turbo wheels were made by but they're definitely different.
I had a guy locally do it. Hes had to cut the top off shorten the housing and piston and put in a threaded cap back on the top. I'm yet to try them out on the road so i'll let you know how I get on. TBH I wasn't over struck on the workmanship but we'll see. The backs I reversed the eyes with one of those bottle jack jigs. There's a guide somewhere. I'm going to see how it goes lowered and if its all good i'll probably get jones springs to reverse them properly and look into having some proper adjustable coilovers made.
When I get time i'm going to see a bloke who's breaking an early one to see how hard it'll be from what I can see it'll be straight forward but the rad will stick out of the bottom so will probably need some kind of splitter and probably a couple of simple brackets to brace the bottom of the bumper.

Found 5 minutes to bleed the brakes today. Still think these are the biggest arseholes to bleed. Also concluded that Gunson ezzzibleeds or whatever they're called are a massive load of shite.

Re: my hijet project.
Lost a bit of my Mojo atm. The backs too high so I need to sort that, the tyres are two bubbly for my liking but theres nothing I can really do about it. Can't seem to find anything thinner with a high enough load rating. Brake pedal still goes lower than i'd like too.
Plan I think is to put it back together and get it to an MOTer before I get some paint for it.

You could try the spring hangers off a pick up as they are shorter

Re: my hijet project.
yeah I read that little nugget of info earlier. Guess i'd only gain 1/2" max and the eyes are reversed on the leaf's so its a bit tight at the hanger already. I'll prob decamber the spring a little more.

Curve has been reversed.
Yeah a measurement would be great, Not sure how easy it'll be to find some though.

Re: my hijet project.
I thought that was what you ment but Im not that proud to ask, I will check for you and report back, if fact you can shorten the van ones, drill a hole on each side of the hanger and cut the angle down to suit, there is a set on ebay at the moment but let me get some sizes for you first

Re: my hijet project.
If you look at the rod between the brake pedal and the servo youll see its threaded, you can adjust the pedal travel there,
The reason I know this is cos I replaced mine and the adjustment was out causing the brakes to bind, took me a long time to figure it out as very few motors can be adjusted there so didnt look( or know to look either)
So dont be too severe or the brakes will lock up....

Cheers, I randomly found a pair of van hangers today when I was looking in the shed for something else. I'll just drill them to lose a cm or two.

Re: my hijet project.
Right i've postponed bodywork and painting the van, I thought i'd cobble it back together and make sure it drives ok for a bit lowered before spending more time and money. I've got the back down some more. Its not as low as i'd like but it'll have to do. With some arches it should look OK.
Also trial fitted some new wing mirrors. -
Just need to fit the n/s door as it was somewhere else then have a drive and put it in for an MOT.

Re: my hijet project.
Looking good are you putting the stock wheels on for the MOT as I think the wheels sticking out is a fail or putting the arches on now.
Re: my hijet project.
going to slap some arches of some sort on before the MOT. We've got some Brian James race Shuttles at work with little rubber arch extensions that might do the job.

Looking good, love the stance, this is giving me inspiration to get mine through another MOT
Is it just me thinking " leave the doors off"?
