Re: Project Ernie
Why thank you! It's the easiest thing ever to convert a mountney boss to fit a Hijet, no fabrication required, just a grinder and welder.
I'm itching to get it all together, can't wait to roll it outside looking pimp.
These are 185/70/13 and I think the rims are 6J and I guess with a ruler at about ET25. Plus the steering wheel is only about 28cm
With the wheel on:-
Plus hopefully I'll win the auction for the new engine next week
Next job is to cut off the fuel tank mounts, and move them 5 inches to the passenger side so the fuel filler neck doesn't stick out so much.

Re: Project Ernie
Steering wheel looks a treat...I'll be keeping an eye out for one of them, plus a spare to butcher. I've gone for 165/65/13's on mine won't 185/70's be 4+cm bigger diameter. Whats the centre bore of your rims? Are you having to make it bigger?

Re: Project Ernie
I don't actually know ash.... (runs into conservatory with ruler.....) they have a 60mm bore! Not having put one on the front yet I hadn't hit that hurdle. Your going to tell me I need 65mm or something.... Looks like I'll be drawing a very nice circle on two of them, then I'll die grinder it out to fit on the fronts. I haven't calculated the tyre size, but when I put them next to the original hijet wheels there is quite some difference
It might help me though as the first build is going to be about 100-110 bhp using a charade engine. I need all the rubber I can get with so little weight on the back end. I can literally lift it up myself and move it about it the garage.

Re: Project Ernie
What ruler do you use to get such acurate measurements the Queen or some one more strict like Castro?
Personally I find a nice steel rule works well and fits in the leg pocket of my overalls but I supose Castro might give you a hand lifting stuff if asked nicely.

Re: Project Ernie
Ah same as mine, think they're 59/60mm, was trying to decide whether to get the hubs made smaller or the wheels bigger. Figured a hub would fit a lathe easier. I had 185/70/13s on mine too when I got them but managed to get the cost of the wheels back by selling the just the tyres. Got some 165's for about ÂŁ25 for a set off ebay.

Re: Project Ernie
I've started polishing a few sets of alloys...never finished a set
Had a quote for boring the centre of the wheels out today...ÂŁ30 a wheel think i'll pikey it somehow.

Re: Project Ernie
It'll keep me busy for a bit, better than watching tv. I need to buy some better buffing wheels in different sizes and some various abrasive wheels.
ÂŁ30 a rim to cut out that few mill is pretty damn pricey... I'd take my time with the die grinder

Re: Project Ernie
Silverline bevel discs from toolbox are decent to use before the polishey bit but i've had a few recently that seemed faulty(didn't last very long).

Have you got access to a proper car buffer(not the Halfrauds ÂŁ20 shite, a real one), with those wheels a heavy compounding sponge and some Farecla paste or similar it'd not take long

Re: Project Ernie
Thanks Ash
When are you getting them rims on, have you finished painting them? They will look really good on
Wheel number 4 is about 50% complete now too I'm getting really polished out now, but I saved the easiest one till last with the least corrosion
On my new engine, I'm going to polish all the fuel rail, rocker cover, cam position sensor and anything else you'll be able to see. JOY
