Standard 12" wheel -- with tyre? Empty Standard 12" wheel -- with tyre?

Post by gogopiaggio on Mon Dec 31, 2018 4:19 pm

Hi everybody.
I could just send this as an email to Woodie, but it's more fun to put it out to tender!

My Piaggio Porter doesn't have a spare wheel. This is fine until the Piaggio driver gets a puncture which results in a short drive to the tyre fitter, who can't repair it due to the massive hole in the sidewall. The tyres are such an uncommon size that the van has to be abandoned at tyrefitter for 24hours -- until a new pair come in and are fitted. (Made by the Unicorn Tyre Co, Ltd -- no joke)

If only I had had a SPARE WHEEL, my life would have been so much less complicated that day.

If anyone would like to offer one up --- or a pair with decent tyres to replace my ageing front tyres --- I would be very grateful.

I have a full set off 4 originally on the van and almost new....but...it’s collection only from Yorkshire (no negotiation on that). Don’t suppose that helps much. Sure I saw one on eBay for sale.

Well done Oldie. Not too far for GoGoSpaghettio to travel for a wheel and tyre and a reasonable price too.

Might be worth checking the date code on that tyre if you're thinking of using it, even as a spare.

Thanks for your input everybody. Raggy, it's a nice thought but Yorkshire is a step too far even for a set of four, and I think you have a 1ltr which means the tyres are a bit smaller all round.
I suspect that living on an island has warped Woodie's sense of distance as Bridgenorth is a 4-hour drive from me. Still, a decent call. Thanks Oldie! Though that's a narrower & smaller tyre than mine too.

Woodie, if you have any wheels please let me know! I have seen another recent post where you mentioned how impressive your collection was because noone seems to want them. As I know how much a pair of tyres costs now it may be that the shipping is worthwhile. or it may not.

Thanks everyone and a happy new year!

Blimey!! A Welsh Sheep Woolen Tyre. What TREAD (or should that read THREAD) PATTERN has the man's Cardigan  got?  DROVE carefully if it's less than 1.6mm deep. Rolling Eyes

155 12 C, just like yours! but it is from a 1.3. I have been told, though I don't know for sure, that 993 vans have narrower steel wheels and are meant to have 145 tyres. Remember it's me that's new here!

The rims are the same on 993cc, 1200D, 1300 & 1400D. 155x12 6ply, but 6ply or 8 ply ( C ) Commercial is the better option if you regularly carry a heavy load around with you - particularly the Pick-Up - rather than the bicycle tyred 145x12.

I think that the 850 was fitted with 145 x12 and they maybe had a slightly narrower rim - but never having actually broken one for spares I'm not sure.

The alloy wheels I sold Raggy for Skylark I put 165/60/13 on them. I fitted 165/60/12 tyres on my Pick-Up Steel Rims giving smaller rolling circumference, so it's acceleration was better but it meant that the speedo read almost 10%
faster - which is better than slower with some of Hi-Jets that are fitted with Road Roller Wheels and Tyres and could get you 3 points on your licence for being over the speed limit.

I run 185/60/13 tyres on my MPV on the Genuine Hi-Jet SE Alloy Wheels. The rolling circumference is identical to a 155/12 tyre so no speedo issues here. Just a very heavy size 11 right foot.

Hey, can we have a "meet your pets" thread? Does Woodie keep guinea pigs or rabbits?

The pick up looks smart in the red livery!
