Spares and repairs fixer upper
So I managed to save this poor thing from the hordes of crazed ebayers looking to make a quick profit.
It was listed as a camper, but I have fixed that problem. If a Hijet with a bed is a camper, then my house must be a luxury five star hotel.
Seller had given up when the (completely seized) alternator snapped its bracket bolts. Solution - pay some else to sweat and swear to remove it, then fit spare bracket and used alternator myself.
Apparently the man before him had payed £2000 for it... Some people eh? Probably the same folk who keep Jawa 350 prices artificially high.
Someone has tried to care for it, with it being resprayed (badly), fudged welded sills, patched on top of the holes and glass fibre in the corners (oh joy), bodged alternator earth from seriously small gauge wire, no working fuel gauge.
Not to bad though, with new (stainless!) exhaust fitted and new starter motor and the bill to prove the effort.
No mention of a timing belt change then? Better do that I guess, along with oil seals as preventative measure.
I get the picture of a family trying to comfort a dying loved one before they pass, they really cannot afford a better doctor, and its cost so much money already, perhaps its better to let them go...but just one more try, this new med has to work.
Considering the thing passed its MOT just over a year ago, I might just do the minimum work required, pass it again, then do a better job. But if I can sell the convoy, I may have enough for an LPG or diesel beast...
Will the caliper slide pins be bent?
Will I ever trace the source of the stereo wiring hackjob?
Will the LSPV I bought and unsized ever be needed?
Will I ever find a woman who understands, and why do cats like me?
Stay tuned for another exiting episode of, IT CAME FROM EAST ANGLIA!!!
Add pictures too, probably.

Anything camper: adds £1000 to the value, so people would like you to believe!

Got my big boy trousers on and started to dig out out all the crap. Doesn't filler dust taste delicious? I ought to know with the amount I had to spit out. Newspaper as well? Gives you something to read I guess. Turns out its from the only city in Norfolk, by the telephone number I found printed on it. I have a mind to go on a little adventure and ask who did this monstrosity. Somebody not long ago paid good money for this, that would make me pretty mad if I were them.
And what strikes me as strange, it that for all the bodgery, a far better welding job could have been done for not that much more effort. Ah well, could be worse. It could have been an LDV .
