Skylark goes deep South

Well, not very deep South but into Cornwall anyway. Travelled down the M1, M42, A5 and A38 without incident. Had a few stops to let the dog out and fill up with fuel. Took about 7hrs including stops, 327 miles, 50-55mph avg and 43mpg, quite happy with that. Couldnt ha e wished for better weather although forecast says it should change now!
The roads in Cornwall are a tad on the ‘lumpy’ i.e. they caused the van to slow somewhat the closer we got to the top. I blame gravity! Anyway could do with a gear in between 3 and 4 as 3 seems to be a screamer and 4 it just can’t get on top of on the long drags. Other than that, think I was in 5th for a majority of the journey.
Glamping in a caravan (with the forecast I'm glad) just outside Looe.

Ready for the journey

Polperro harbour

Coastal Path from Talland Bay to Polperro

East Looe beach on a Bank holiday weekend

Road from Caravan Park down to West Looe

This little fella decided to join us to see what scraps we left from morning coffee and cake in Talland Bay.

Decent mpg but did once get the mythical 50mpg (must have been a following wind that day). Mine is the 993 so is a little lacking sometimes but on the whole fine for what I do and how I drive. No idea what make the wheels are and got them from a friend. Had them re coated and reall6 happy with them.

Hi Carl. I had the wheels on my 03 Dual Fuel MPV.
I bought a Diesel Van here at home in Niton with those wheels on it. On the centre caps it had : DINO.

I was fortunate enough to buy a job lot of brand new genuine Daihatsu Alloys ( 4X110) in 3 styles from a Daihatsu Dealer in Dover after thanks to Highly Jetted giving me the "heads up" on them. I drove down to Dover and filled the back of the car up with them.

I offered them to Raggy, (without his wife knowing) and he picked them up on his first trip to the Isle of Wight, and indeed he has had a lovely job of refurbishment done on them.

Thanks Woodie, thought I had kept them a secret but I think she spotted me trying to hide them in the back of the Astra on our way back up north

Finally made it home in Skylark with no issues at all, 7.5 hrs including two stops and 327 miles. Stuck to a steady 50-55 again and apart from the slight hills in Cornwall it was a ni e straight forward drive. Now the interesting thing was when I got home I did the usual and calculated my mpg between fuel stops and from filling up in Looe to sevices on the M42 near Birmingham 213 miles I got .....drum roll....55.92mpg Shocked Had 52 I think last year on one trip but couldnt believe this, worked it out twice to check! Just all the stars aligning themselves, a light right foot and a tail wind I suppose.
Been a brilliant week, bit damp on the last day but you cant have it all.
