Some think about a beef burger and a funny shaped penis.
But my Dutch has never been any good.

Concours de Elegance definitely Raggy. Â An absolutely superb restoration job. Great to see my old wheels refurbished and adorning yet another blue Hi-Jet. (see my Avatar)Â

Is the Hijets "green lining " going to be some nice silk or maybe felt?
Re: The Renovation of Skylark
I think it will felt like mud rather then silk

Re: The Renovation of Skylark
Hey Raggy, I've noticed that a post of mine never made it on your topic.
Just wanted to say that you did an incredible job! I showed it from begin to end to my dad en we're both very impressed by your work! Well thought out, great to see how inventive you were to fit all the things into the van. And great craftsmanship. Everything looks spot on!
Now it is time to enjoy your creation and relax a bit instead of doing all the hard work. (although the build is also very nice to do) You must be very satisfied when looking back to the project. I know I am with mine
Big thumbs up for you man!!

Re: The Renovation of Skylark
Just finishing off a few jobs now all the major cosmetic work has been done. After putting on the new wheels, found out they just protruded past the wheel arch and when it was wet (which at the moment thats quite regular) the water tended to spray up the side of the van so after looking at alternatives for wheel arches I decided to try my luck with these from ebay Link and so far they are great, the sliding door just goes past no problem.
Just couldnt resist this purchase! Blue No.10 Pool ball gear knob, blue matchs the van, 10 is linked to my date of birth...fate...well thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Re: The Renovation of Skylark
In 1999, they were the coolest thing ever, next to mini disks. And maybe an Astra GSi or a Calibra Turbo which had been given the max power treatment.
Re: The Renovation of Skylark
Thought it was about time I updated this thread, not much done since the summer hols but have completed one job that a) annoyed me and b) found it would have been handy on holiday! When I bought the camper it had a hole in the rear door card so you could poke your finger in to activate the mechanism to open the door from the inside. More use when its a camper than when its a van I suppose. I just thought it was a bodge by a previous owner but after seeing photos it seems it was a feature! No my way at all so thinking cap on and realised that a door handle would work just as well. It only needed a small plate (ok part of the barrel of a biro) attaching to the end of the lever to give it more chance of striking the mechanism. Sprayed it up to match the van instead of being the sun bleached faded gray and job done. Now think the door handles may get the paint treatment. Keep watching to find out!

Re: The Renovation of Skylark
Here is the next addition to Skylark, a bit of bling or rather trying to make her look a bit more modern. As I had done the door handles in the van colour I decided to carry on with the colour theme to the speedo display surround and the heater/air vent surround. I had seen this done once before but everything had been painted, I just wanted to highlight with colour. Hope you like it.
Managed to get hold of an SE steering wheel as well to finish off the cab area. If anyone is interested the guy did still have the alloy wheels (ebay link)
