Not sure what year this is for, but I don't think the rear of the vans changed in 1998 when the front was changed.
You could Email the seller to check which year van it came from.

Are the tow bars tricky to fit? I'm hoping my local garage would fit one for me.

Tow bars are generally easy to fit, just a few nuts & bolts.
The hardest bit is splicing the tow bar socket wiring into the rear light wiring, which isn't difficult, just a bit time consuming & fiddly.

One other question, and it is numptyish I'm afraid
Are the ball and socket fittings universal? Ooh er, how to explain this What I mean is, will any trailer fit any tow bar?

I believe tow balls & sockets are a universal size, but I may be wrong.
I've never towed anything either, so you're not alone.

the ball that you get with a bar should be universal...
But there are 3 types of hitch.
2 balls of different sizes, one universal, one smaller (USA)
pin/jaw type.

you can buy a multi hitch that has a ball on top and jaws



these are the best option. "pin and ball hitch"

Actually there are more than 3, just so you know...

You get the standard ISO ball which is 50mm which is most of what you get in the UK
The other one you get on older trailers (I think over 25~30 years old) is the 2 inch ball, which is 50.8mm

Then you get the american ball which is 1 7/8 of an inch (47.6mm I think), and the one I havent ever seen, the 2 5/16 (58.7mm)

Then you get the pin style hitch, the receiver style hitch, the NATO hitch, etc...

The style Leopard posted a picture of are a good style hitch, as you can attach the overrun or break away cable around the pin...

I have that style on my Land Rover

Wiring is actually quite easy...

I told you I may be wrong.

go for a standard 50mm ball as I haven't seen the other size balls ever! and don't go for a pin system they make a racket and the hoop can bounce all over the place.

Well!!! a lot of my towing was done when I was power boating and not only was the talk about balls but tubes and horses too!!!!!!!!!!

According to some of the other listings on Ebay, it's the same towbar for all Hijets from 1986-2004.

Don't know whether your intersted but I have a towbar off a r reg jet. It is sat around the back of my house. It has a slight bend in it but nothing major. I put it on ebay with £1 start bid and never got 1 bid!. Yours if you want it?.

i never leave the pin in the hitch, some sod would nick it! == no rattling pin in hitch.... i keep in the pouch behind passenger seat

Sorry, I thought you meant ask the seller to add a 'buy it now' to the auction - I know for sure that can't be done once there are bids in place

auctions can be cancelled while bids are in place. i had a few happen over the years and cancelled 2 myself.
email him to ask if he has a final price. if so and your happy with it. he'll cancel the auction. you buy the tow bar...
