Problem is Rich, being of Italian origin they are made from Sardine cans --- hence the reason that some of them have built in rust before they left the Factory.

Have you had a chance to do any welding on yours yet ?

I had to do some welding on a 54 plate Jaguar last week. there was nothing much left of the Drivers side sill so welded 3/4 of a sill on there. Took a couple of hours and charged him £75 and he was over the moon with it. Should have made it £95 by the reaction from him.

Next time --------.

No not yet but have some new (to me) welding gear, one of my old work mates used to get a train through Fords in Dagenham and the body line ran outside so if it was raining the shells got wet and rusty and what was out come Friday shut down stayed out till Monday morning. So it's not just one it's all of them giving us tin worm.

I worked there on the assembly line in the mid 80's... the beginning of the end of dagenham. Loads of pointless strikes (& I'm pro union in principle). You could order a car on the black market & guys would lift a complete car in individual components & assemble it back in there garage. More front than Sainsburys.

Yes I knew about that leaving the bare shells out in the rain fiasco. It was in 1980/81. A friend of mine bought a brand new Mk5 Cortina Y reg in white.

Within 5 months it was white and brown and Fords would not replace or refund his money so they had it back to the Main Dealer to respray the whole car. Diabolical!!
