Ive connected positive and negative leads to battery. Thats how i got the power to dash.
Unless the van has two positives? Then no.
I couldnt see another positive?

Does the engine light come on and the fuel pump pump make noise when you turn the key to the on point.

It might be solinoid?

Re: My first hijet!
Well, now you need to diagnose just that issue.
First, use a multimeter on the starter motor - make sure you get 12v at the little wire when you turn on the key - this is the "activator" wire.
Then make sure you get 12v at the big wire.
If both is true the I would suspect the starter motor.
How are you powering it?

Re: My first hijet!
So then how old is the battery? How well charged is it?
Have you tried starting it on some jump leads?

Re: My first hijet!
On the live terminal, there is another cable that joins it, and then that goes to a grey plug thing where is splits into 2.
Mess with that lot while you hold the key on for start.
After that, try hitting the starter motor while you hold the key.
Then test the voltages out as described.
If all that goes ok, take the starter motor off and bench test it.
But if you can't be arse with all that. Drag the van down the road on a length of rope to see if you can bump start it.

I will try that tomorrow. Cheers

Re: My first hijet!
So i tested the solinoid on starter motot perm live thats good. Then the spade connector which goes to ignition thats negitive. But stay negative when ing and start up goes on.
So i got a piece of wire and put it from the perm live on solinoid to the other spade wire coming out and it turned over the starter motor.
So could it be the wire from the solinoid to ignition thats bad?

Re: My first hijet!
Make sure the final switching stage of the ignition barrel works.
If your getting the starter live there, then you can work forwards.

Re: My first hijet!
There are 4 or 5 wires coming off the barrel.
I did check them but not sure if i got the right result.
How many do i need live and how many negative?
One showed no live or negative.

Re: My first hijet!
I'm sure if you sit and think about it you will work out how the ignition barrel works!
Its here on the diagram:-

Sort of top left, "IG SW"

Re: My first hijet!
Ok cool.
Also there is a thick cable that is at the front of the van. That has a grey plug/connector with a green band on that has two wires blue and white and red and white is this anything important as its not plugged in and i cant find where it goes.

If you took pictures of all the loose wires, I could pretty much tell you what they should all plug into I need a life!!

Re: My first hijet!
Im going to buy a 2wd van and convert it to 4wd.
I dont know how long it will take but i think its the best. And from some very good advise its sensible.

Re: My first hijet!
Right so the van is working. Yay!!
I just have to find where the fault is from the ign barrell to the starter motor.
And still have to source another van.
Then it will be on the road.

Right so i took all the bits out of the back of the van.
Drained all the fuel and oil out.
Started the cutting.
