Thanks HJ. Yes can do -- but not for a week --10 days. Flat roofing work has gone ballistic now we have a dry period. All the Builders want us yesterday -- cant keep up. Started on roof at 6-30 am and have been to 3 today and only just got in from my workshop. Started round the garage on Sunday morning at 7 am and got home at 8-20pm last night.

Could you please give me a reminder towards the end of next week ( sorry -- thats rather presumptuous of me assuming you want me to supply it )--- but yes if you do-- send me a Private Message with your contact details. Cheers, Woody.cheers

No probs M.B. Its 07970 391876. AS everyone takes the pee out of my lack of computer skills--- despite that -- If you use the little MP Icon below your personal details you can send and receive private messages then you can ask questions on there or talk personal details privately.

If you phone tomorrow leave it till between 5&6 as got a hellish big roof to do starting at 6-30am and finishing I know not when. Also its our Wedding anniversary and are off out at 7 for a night out so timing is critical or better still text your number and I will call you if free earlier in the afternoon .

Thank you Matt. I love you too. Really not looking forward to it. Will be Purgatory.
One Plus Point though-- I wont be at the yard tomorrow when the Planninng Gestapo arrive.
I finished it ALL around 8-30pm tonight. Two and a half months to sort it all out-- but really glad it has happened cos the place looks so much better now. Will look so much better to new customers too.

How are you getting on with the Spoiler? Bet you haven't had a chance to touch it yet. Rolling Eyes

I know what you mean there Matt . Time --or lack of it is definitely our worst enemy that and unfullfilled good intentions.

I bought another motor today --ER sorry yesterday-- blimey look at the time. Gotta be WORKING on a roof in 4 hours so got to be up in 3 hrs. I was going to send you some pictures of it .
I gave a oner for it and the wheels are worth more than that alone. Will have to do it tonight
after our anniversary do. I will email one piccie to you . I am only going to move it on.
I will let someone else repair it . It is a 1.4 16v 4 door Megganne--- not something I would
normally touch but couldnt pass it up for £100 could I ??

Not all quickfits are bad, I know a lad who works at one in Macc and he's a pretty good fitter.

Even worse case its the master cylinder, that shouldn't be too expensive.

Pads are only like £17 for the front, disks are about £45 a pair.

Drums on the back never fail and the shoes last literally for ever on Hijet.

Taken from todays daily mail

Kwik-Fit mechanics accused of ripping off customers by quoting them for work they didn't need during free brake and tyre test

I agree there HJ as regards its down to the Staff being lousy or competent as it is in any business of any kind .
Staff can make or break a business but like any National Company
they have a pricing structure to abide by and Kwik-Fit aren't exactly noted for their economic
work or pricing are they ?

They never seemed to have a good reputation when Tom Farmer owned it, even worse under Fords. Good to know that they where honest with you when they found nothing wrong, one up for you'r local branch.

Brake pedal going to the floor tends to be Master Cylinder failure melboy. Something you can't easily inspect.

I would say on the whole, Quickfit like to sell discs, pads, exhaust and tyres. These items are easily sold to the gullible due to the "vehicle safety" factor. Main dealers do it too, every one is selling you new brake pads when the old ones were only half used. And also there are quite alot of brain dead inept staff at most of the tyre/brake/exhaust specialists - to be honest most of the garage workers i've met and worked beside over the years have been quite thick people.

I agree with the negative comments all round so much so I don't trust anyone else with my stuff as I am a mechanic the only time it is touched is Mr MOT or a specialist job I don't have the tool for like head skims and it all stems from only ever working in the motor/motorbike trade. That said there are some bloody good ones out there they are always busy and nobody has a bad word for them which is the best you can ask for.

Well said Rich. Always worries me when any tradesman can fit you in "straight away sir".

Generally the longer you have to wait for them to do the job gives a good indication that they are chokka because they have a good reputation and regulars know them and can trust them.

Not always the case-- but generally a good rule of thumb.

We have had a Kwik Fit on the Island for Donkeys years and used to know all the Guys there then when they were "Tyreservices" whom Kwikfit bought out. Most of the guys ran Fords and came to me for spares for their own cars and quite often Tony the manager would phone me up for a spare part that no-one on the Island or South Coast could supply but mostly it was to repair "Staked Joint Propshafts". Those WERE the good old days and you wont hear me say that
very often because I love modern progress with tecnology (except Photo- Bucket and damn Hi-Jets with Cam sensor problems--- no I havent done the damn thing yet. Lost interest.)

Dont know anyone here in Crap-Fit now these days. Too much water under the bridge.

What I was leading to in my usual meandering way was that we had the ONLY franchised Lucas Auto Centre in the country on the Isle of Wight. It was owned by a Crook who had TWICE lost his MoT License for bent MoT's
His "Fitters" were paid to "find" faults that werent there and to cut a long story short I reccomended a car ( a Cavalier ) a fellow trader had for sale -- to a friend of mine which he bought on my recomendation from my Trader friend who was as straight as a (dye ???) die
--- Anyway it still had 7 months mot on it and my friends daughter took it after owning it for 3 weeks into "Lucas Autocentre for one of their "FREE CHECKS" and they found 17 things wrong with it including a "snapped shock absorber end ". They were told it was a death trap and shouldnt be driven .
To say they were upset was an understatement and my Friend Tony
phoned me and went off the deep end at ME for recomending a death trap for his daughter
. Despite the Mot being nearly 6 months gone I phoned Richard who had done the mot and he immediately went and picked it up on his transporter. After examining it I get an irate call from Richard saying " What the F*** are they on about? there is only one fault I can find and that was very minor. So I went down and looked at it on the ramp and there was no snapped
shock absorber or anything else either . They had made up the 16 other faults .
I phoned my friend Tony and told him and he was speechless and furious.

I then phoned Lucas in Birmingham and INSISTED on speaking to one of the Directors of Lucas
and after explaining what it was about they put me through to TONY LUCAS who was FANTASTIC . When I said I could not believe that they had given a Franchise to a CROOK
like Tony Durham he said " wooh, hold on there you cant say things like that" . Yes I can --
Have you not checked out his Credibility --- I cant believe huge Company Like Lucas has not
checked him out-- that will look good in the Local paper when it goes to Court -- which
believe me it is
. Oh boy he was so helpful after that. I explained the whole story to him and
he sent two of his company inspectors down from Birmingham with two test cars and low and behold --same story. Banged to rights. Lost the Franchise, lost his Mot Ticket and large Court
finds and loads of compensation for my friends daughter. SORTED. And me --my friend Tony
couldnt apologise enough and took me out for a huge meal. And Durham left the Island too.
